Create a chat room

A chat room is a named space where you and other people can send messages and share files. You can create as many rooms as you like, each with its own name and access list.

Create a room from the sidebar

1. Open Chat. The sidebar on the left lists your rooms.
2. Click New chat at the top of the sidebar.
3. In the New chat dialog, type a name or email address and pick the person from the list. Repeat for everyone you want in the room.
4. Click Let's chat. If you already have a chat with exactly these people, that chat opens instead. Click Create new chat if you want a second one.
5. Check the Name and the Location. By default the room is saved to the chats folder in your Drive. To save it somewhere else, click Change and pick the folder you want.
6. Click Let's chat again. The new room opens straight away.

Create your first room

If you have no rooms yet, Chat shows a Create your first chat button in the center of the screen. Click it to open the same dialog described above.

Personal rooms and team rooms

The New chat dialog makes either kind of room.

• Pick people to create a personal room. Everyone you picked gets access as soon as the room is created.
• Click Team chat in the bottom-left of the dialog and pick a team to create a team room. Every member of that team gets access automatically, without you having to add each person individually. The room is saved on the team's drive.

After the room is created

Once the room is open, you can share it with specific people by clicking the Share button in the toolbar. You can also rename the room at any time using the pencil icon in the toolbar.
